Historic Grassmere

The land that the zoo in Nashville is located on was once the Grassmere Farm. Two old sisters lived and ran this farm. The home was well over 200 years old. When the ladies died, they left the farm to the city of Nashville to be used to take care of animals. The city turned it into the zoo. The home site and farm are still standing today. It was quite odd seeing this old house along with animals from Africa and other parts of the world.

Carousel

I love beautiful carousels. I believe people of all ages love to see and ride on these lovely creations.

Katie Lee's Favorite Parts of the Zoo Trip

On the way home from the zoo, we asked Katie Lee what was her favorite part of seeing the zoo. She quickly referred back to her map which she "read" and kept us going in the right directions all day and said that it was petting the goat and the park. I just laughed because both of those we could have done right here.


This was by far my least favorite play area of any place that we have been. It was very closed up and very maze like, so it was hard to see where Katie Lee was going. Donnie spent a lot of time inside while I stayed on the outside trying to keep an eye on her.


I think that it was suited for older kids. (meaning elementary age children)

They did have a great jumping area that was perfect for kids her age.


She loved brushing the goats. This surprised me because she doesn't even like dogs.

Zoo Trip

We had a family day at the Zoo in Nashville.


This started out as a trip for Katie Lee, Grammie, and Poppie.


Donnie and I decided to tag along, too.
I don't remember the last time I ever went to a zoo and it was a first for Katie Lee. We had a wonderful time and got to see so many different animals.

Elephants. These big guys were very hard to see because they were far away from the viewing area and they camouflage perfectly with the rocks. Katie Lee never could find them.

Catching Up

Well, I haven't blogged in over two weeks! This is so not like me, but truth is I've just been busy. School began and I still feel like it is the first week with all the million of things that you have to do. I am one of those people who like to be two steps ahead, and this year I feel that I haven't even gotten to the race and it has started without me. It just isn't turning into the natural routine that I like. By the time I get home, I am just too exhausted to think, so Katie Lee and I just play. :) Hopefully after this last week before fall break, I can get somewhat caught up and be ready and it will be settling down in Oct.
Our house is really coming together. I will get pictures soon. The floors begin today. They yard is full of new leveled dirt and we have a septic tank. Most of the lights are hung. I am getting so excited. I have boxes that are ready to pack.
I hope to have lots of post in the next few weeks. So for my few followers, keep checking back.

15 Years Already

Where does the time go? Last night we attended Donnie's 15 year class reunion. Not many from his class came, but those that did seemed to enjoy catching up with each other.



I should have gotten a picture of Keri, Kelly, and me. We had our own mini 14 year reunion of EHS class of 96. We all ended up marrying boys from this class. 15 years ago only one of us even knew these guys. Funny how things all work out.

3 Year Check-Up

Yesterday, Katie Lee had her 3 year old check-up. She was so excited to see Dr. Dudley. She talked about it all week and how she was going to tell her all about raccoons.

As soon as I got there from work, she quickly told me that she got to pee pee in a cup. She thought that was the funniest thing. She got the Flu mist and a finger prick. Dr. Dudley asked her several questions. She drew two circles and asked which one was the biggest. Katie Lee quickly pointed to the circle that she had drawn before Dr. D came in and told her that it was the biggest. She was right. :) We all thought that was funny. Dr. Dudley said that she was really smart.

Weight-- 35 lbs--75%

She checked out just fine. I am so thankful for a healthy child.

Chuck E. Cheese

Tuesday Mother surprised Katie Lee with a trip to Chuck E. Cheese in Decatur. Katie Lee was so excited telling me about it when I came home.

Happy 60th Birthday Daddy

August 19th, my daddy turned 60! We celebrated with just the family on his birthday night. Mother cooked a wonderful meal with banana pudding for dessert. Yummy! Then Saturday night about family and friends gathered for a party . Daddy said this was his first big birthday party ever. I think everyone had a good time. Wishing Daddy many more years of birthdays.

Mother decorated with a golf theme. We had seating for about 25 people. These are the center pieces. I made golf themed invitations that I found on Martha Stewart website, but forgot to take a picture.
